ORACABESSA (August 18, 2009) – Island Outpost, a
collection of distinctive hotels and villas in Jamaica, began the
expansion of its famed GoldenEye resort with an official groundbreaking
ceremony held on August 14th, 2009. Entertainment mogul Chris
Blackwell; the Honorable Bruce Golding, Prime Minister; the Honorable
Daryl Vaz, Minister of Projects and Implementation; and Jason Henzell,
president of Island Outpost attended the official ceremony.

Real Estate Taxes Reduced
The Government yesterday announced an effort to stimulate Jamaica's real estate market by moving the original January 1, 2010 implementation date for the further reduction in stamp duty and transfer tax fees to August 1 this year. The administration announced that Stamp Duty would be reduced from 5.5 per cent to 4.5 per cent and Transfer Tax from 7.5 per cent to six per cent.

February Construction Update

The sun has been shining on the construction team! Work is being done throughout the entire property as two guest suites are being added to the Fleming Villa, the Gazebo restaurant has been disassembled and is undergoing expansion, and the new restaurant on Low Cay Beach is coming up! Our operations center is now under construction on an adjacent property which will house laundry, staff quarters,etc.

Groundbreaking announcement

The Official Groundbreaking Celebration has been scheduled for August 14th. In attendance will be the Honorable Bruce Golding, Prime Minister, the Honorable Daryl Vaz Minister of Projects & Implementation, the Honorable Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism and distinguished guests. The Oracabessa Youth Choir will sing the National Anthem.
January Construction Update

The New Year is off to a fast start. Construction is on schedule as foundations for all cottages on Low Cay Beach have been completed. The walls are going up and the roofs for Cottages 11,12,13, and 14 are proceeding.

Swim Jamaica

The Swim Jamaica program at James Bond Beach passed another class of swimmers today. Eleven passed to level two certification, while 23 passed to level three! Congratulations to the young ones!!

Low Cay Sundeck nears completion

The finishing touches are being completed on Low Cay island. Chris Blackwell, Ann Hodges, Nick Simmonds, and Roger Brown met to discuss the island's usage. The Island will have a small bar in the sand, sitting areas, and a sun deck. Overlooking the sea, the Island will also serve as a stage for musical performances and film festivals.

Bridge pilings were placed in the lagoon for the construction of a pedestrian suspension bridge that will link the estate and spa to the beach and islands.


Marine-works completed

The timely completion of marine-works included the bridge connecting the mainland to Santa Maria Island and the Peninsula, the docks for all phases of construction, and 30,000 tons of stone placed on the windward side of the peninsula.

Island photographer Adrian Boot met with architects Kevin Cimini and Brandon Hicks (www.marchmade.com) to coordinate the production of CGI imagery of Beach Cottages and Blue Bar. Adrian shot backplates and property shots in HDR (high dynamic range) producing vibrant images that capture the unique lighting and lush landscape at Goldeneye.
